Inspiration Report Topics & Questions Hey all – Please ask a question and/or share your topic for the Inspiration Report here. We can discuss! Inspiration Report: o4/28 or FLUID DATE before the last day of class.

Thanks @Michael. I have to admit, I’ve been focusing on another big project for my other class and haven’t been able to focus on my Inspo. Report yet! I’m also floundering on a topic. I’m thinking of leaning into Indigenous librarianship. Are we to kind of pick and choose other things libraries are doing that highlight our chosen topic and report on them?
-
@Michael. I’ve made some headway into my inspiration report, but started to feel like I needed to confirm with you if it’s suitable. I wanted to focus my inspiration report on providing comprehensive services to foster teens (a subject near and dear to my heart). My idea is a pilot program that positions libraries as a vital hub for social prescriptions and referrals from healthcare providers, social services, schools and other community stakeholders. This initiative explicitly targets foster youth, offering resources and services that support their physical, mental, and social well-being.
Here is a recent article on social prescriptions from the NY Times that sparked this idea in the first place:
https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/17/well/mind/social-prescription-health-medication-art.html
Does this fit the four options in the inspiration report? Could social prescriptions count as a participatory trend? Or am I getting way off track here?
Thank you so much for your input.

Hi @michael. I was really interested in coming up with an new program for San Francisco PL which would be to provide the community who visit Golden Gate Park Promenade (a car-free section that covers a large portion of the park include major attractions like the Conservatory of Flowers, Academy of Sciences, and The DeYoung Museum) a SF Book Mobile for all to enjoy while spending time in the park. What better way to bring joy to people than books while relaxing in the park? I’m thinking this could be part of infinite learning: the book mobile will learn more about outdoor park communities and constantly keep up with what their needs are. What do you think? Thanks!
-
@christines This is interesting. Think about how a mobile learning vehicle might fall in line with the learning modules…perhaps even a bit of “Power of Stories.” Try some outside the box thinking too. 😀
-
@michael thank you! That was very helpful.

@michael I finished my report, I just have a question about sharing it. Does it HAVE to be in PDF format or can we share a link to the digital format?
I created my report on Canva and when I try to download it to a PDF it looks wonky. So, I’m wondering if I can just share the Canva link? 🙁
Thanks,
Laurel -
@matilda This is perfect! There is wiggle room…write the report that includes what works best for your topic and framework. 😀

@matilda. This:
“Do you feel safe?” — the librarian had something she wanted me to know: “I don’t care if a person is rich or poor or homeless, Black or white or gay or whatever. I’m here to help everybody.
Well said.

@matilda I don’t want to give too much away, but it is a story of a couple that meet on the night of graduation from the University of Edinburgh and the time they spend together over the years. It’s called one day because every episode takes place on the same date in a different year.
-
That does sound intriguing. Sort of a riff along the theme of Same Time, Next Year. A movie that I sadly cannot seem to find anywhere.

Inspiration: Photos from My Day at Lake Villa District Library Hello all! I had a good day trip to Chicagoland. I am so knocked out by Lake Villa District Library: spaces, services and staff! Here is a gallery to inspire. Click the photos for larger versions.

@Michael, awesome pix! Nice to photo the empty space so you can really get a feel for its capabilities. Unfortunately makes my library seem to pail in comparison!
-
@michael This library is absolutely stunning. It’s a space I would definitely go to if I lived there.
I love the “If you liked…” book suggestions and how it’s displayed and how the information is sourced. Same goes for the Library of Things and how it’s displayed in a similar way. Very cool. It’s like you’re shopping but it’s all free (borrow). Very cool. Very clean and neat and open. Love the use of big windows to let in natural light and views.

Their front-facing displays look like they would be very effective! Nice to have that much shelf space so they can really promote individual titles. And I love the Library of Things! Thanks for sharing.

@lauraw Yoga and a series of stretches is helping…as is being mindful of the million times I day I bend forward to mess with the boys or load the dishwasher.
I too have some issues with momentum…especially as the weather improves up here.
