Here is a job description from CityLibraries Townsville in Queensland, Australia from 2019. My colleague Warren Cheetham is Coordinator, Planning and Business Development there. I visited Warren while in Australia in 2018. Take look at this bit and then grab the PDF to see the full job. Note the nuances of Australian library work. The Digital Life Librarian will contribute to implementing a holistic program of change across the Planning, Environmental and Cultural Services Division in collaboration with the section leadership team and in consultation with the Townsville community. This will involve leading the Cultural Services Section on a transformative journey focusing on the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community developing a culture of customer-centricity and personal accountability; and reshaping how we deliver services to maximise value.
It sounds like librarians in Australia are community leaders and their job is to nurture and help develop the community. I’m mainly commenting here because the koala is SO CUTE! 🥹🐨🩷
@natalie I traveled to Australia on three separate occasions to speak and do research. The Australian library folk are absolutely amazing with their commitment to their libraries, service, their user populations, etc.
