@maggierogers this is such a fantastic report! I admire how much attention you put towards creating a developmentally appropriate and curricula aliagned lesson that brings in so many rich sources. I hope this lesson happens, because I think it will spark a great critical conversation and lots of inquiry!

Hi @maggierogers, This was a really good presentation. Great idea to link the history of Japanese American internment with your school’s reading program through a field trip! This brings history to life for the students and shows that learning can happen anywhere, not just in a library or classroom. I’m excited to see how this helps students e…[Read more]

@maggierogers This is so good! I live in El Cerrito, and have been meaning to pay a visit to the Rosie the Riveter park. I think a field trip to get first hand stories of Japanese internment camps is such a powerful way to connect real life experiences with the school curriculum, and is a wonderful way to increase empathy amongst the students. I…[Read more]

@maggierogers oh, this is absolutely wonderful. I am going to save this because you pulled out such interesting questions from all of those references. Thanks for this. I also really like the picture of the bench.

@maggierogers both of your ideas are good ones. I think having one day a week when students could have lunch would be so interesting to try and it might be a very valuable experience to see if something like that could work more than one day a week. Please keep us informed if you try it.

@maggierogers what a great topic to cover for this post. You gather some interesting examples to demonstrate the power that comes from information institutions and theatrical entities getting together. Perhaps going forward many public libraries may include performative spaces.

@maggierogers The linking to your google slides was absoilutely the right way to do it!
This resonated with me:
A hyperlinked community is one where libraries support student identity and
provide a place for students to feel that they belong.❤️ this!

@maggierogers I so appreciate your thoughts on the kids and building relationships with students. So cool. Nice to see such a neat family photo as well. I did a talk in Montreal years ago and we went up there to see the view.
Welcome to #hyperlib!
