What a great idea! When my coworker and I worked as academic tutors at the YMCA at an afterschool program in Hawaii, we spent our own money to bring in craft materials and snacks for our kids. We found it was hard getting funds from our program in doing so, but it was so beneficial to be able to provide for these kids. As wonderful as the crafting was, we felt like bringing snacks was more essential. A lot of our kiddos came from hard and impoverished backgrounds, it is difficult to tackle anything else, let alone school when basic physiological are not met. This teacher takes it to a whole other level though! I commend him and his kindness.
