@inabookbind I love that you turned inward for this reflection! I agree that librarians who are happy and healthy will serve their communities better, so it’s mutually beneficial to grant staff time for self-care and peer connection. My library holds staff days with guest speakers, breakout sessions, and yummy treats, but it’s only once a year! It…[Read more]

This is such a powerful reflection and testimony! The difference between Indonesia’s actual vs. needed librarians is staggering, you’re right. Also, I agree with Dr. Stephens on your last paragraph.

@michael thank you for sharing! I won’t have to tackle my e-Portfolio until next fall, but I’ve already thought about it with a little trepidation. It’s reassuring to read this in advance!

Thank you for sharing some of your own story here, Michelle! It sounds like libraries have had a profound impact on you; it also sounds like your life has helped you become a great librarian.

@claireburke this is a great project! Also, it’s a great cause that I wish we could actually launch at my library. I did a WebJunction “Helping librarians to be autism-ready” toolkit this summer in preparation for working with ASD children at my library. I can see the thought and research you put into your plan: everything you included aligned…[Read more]

@claireburke I agree with what’s been said so far by others, and with what you yourself said about VR fieldtrips! I remember reading about the senses and memory retention when I was studying for the MCAT (when I needed those memory skills the most, RIP). I like the idea of using VR to reach places that would otherwise be out of budget, but to…[Read more]

@acorey nice touch with the AI featured image! I’ve also seen ChatGPT be recommended as a readers’ advisory tool–something I’ve since tried out and found to be pretty neat (I’ve even asked it to recommend movies for me based on content I like and the mood I’m in). Not that you’d want to rely on AI entirely for that service, but it’s a nice…[Read more]

@michael no problem–traveling like that is huge (also I think I didn’t even properly tag you, so…it’s more than okay that you missed it). I totally understand that. I have yet to travel abroad myself but would love to; I might even visit my friend while she’s over there! Your photos from your trip make it look fantastic.

You’re welcome, @kianapouya! The security cameras are a nice compromise. I completely agree with you on being transparent with patrons, especially if it assuages any of their fears for themselves or their librarians. I love interacting with patrons and having a mini community hub at my tiny (basically microscopic, if we’re being honest)…[Read more]

Also wow have fun in Scotland; I hope it’s a good reset for you! A friend of mine just flew over to St. Andrews for a creative writing program, so you’re in the same part of the world as her. 🙂 I also hope you get tons of good pics.

This is so generous, @michael–thank you so much! I hope you’re extended similar grace in your own life somehow. Also, I’m obsessed with those broccoli earrings, hah.

@kianapouya, great post design and content! Also, thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings so honestly. I hope you’re able to achieve your personal goal someday and flourish because of it.
One of the most “radical” of the radical trust practices I’ve seen is the Open+ system in Gwinnett County Public Library (GCPL). I found it awesome…[Read more]

Ah, thank you so much. I picked up some work shifts and haven’t spent much time with my family in order to study; this will help balance me out!

Hi, everyone! I recently binged the majority of Abbott Elementary and the first season of Only Murders in the Building. I was housesitting for my aunt and had access to her Hulu, so that catalyzed it! Gotta say I enjoyed Abbott more, though both shows are a fun time. A few days ago I went sailing with a friend and met someone who reminded me of…[Read more]
