@royaflin, this report was very eye opening. Your “Hopeful Futures” project is a great way to show how libraries can help young people in foster care in new and important ways. It is a great connection to social services that we are seeing more and more with libraries. Thank you for all of the work you put into this.

Thank you @royaflin for this exceptional blog post! Your research is astounding and the statistics are sobering. I first learned about social workers in the library way back in INFO 200 and it seems like such a natural partnership to link library services and social services. Your report is excellent in pointing out the challenges but also the…[Read more]

Thanks so much @royaflin! I’m in absolute agreement about increasing empathy. I do hope you get a chance to watch the documentary (the film itself is only 18 minutes long, even though the video I link to is longer). The stories are so compelling, as are the people involved. It’s a bit of a spoiler but I was pleased to learn that some families were…[Read more]

@royaflin Yes – I think social prescriptions are participatory. This feels to me like an extension of the libraries that are hiring social workers. You might want to include that and then go from there with your ideas for expanding into social prescriptions, etc..

@royaflin It is amazing how making a connection to someone who is going through something difficult can make it easier. Knowing that you’re not alone and someone has a similar story to yours can be lifew changing.
I can especially empathize when it comes to our children. My son has had multiple medical issues in his life, and when I was first…[Read more]

@royaflin This is such a thoughtfully presented exploration of the current state of… everything really! This so resonated with me at the end:
We must also recognize that to retain our humanity, we must also provide places for people to connect and form communities in real life. Libraries and librarians are uniquely positioned in our society…[Read more]

@royaflin, I love it! Thank you! Consequently, there is a popular restaurant in town called ‘Zameen.’ Is that, “I eat”?

@royaflin the slide deck was amazing. So much good information and a most engaging look and feel. I really appreciate it that bit where the person said. I found my voice. We need more places where that can happen.

@royaflin That is a great article with some fun quotes: ““Libraries are such an integral part of creating community and equitable access to creative works,” says Edmonton-based singer/songwriter Lindsey Walker.”

@michael. Agreed. I actually ended up using that quote in my reflection blog this week!
