Carly,
This was beautifully written. The part about being a school librarian and choosing the correct reading materials for developing readers really resonated with me. Years ago I worked with a first grade teacher. I remember one particular incident where he was especially frustrated because he was unable to impress upon a parent the…[Read more]

Also, anyone in the mood for a great documentary about arcade gaming should check out the King of Kong! I like to say it depicts the battle between good and evil, but the stakes have never been lower! In all seriousness, it’s a great documentary about a very niche community.

SJSU has a really cool arcade box that is programmed with games students have coded/created. I got a chance to play during one of the summer First Friday street festivals.

Break the Ice: Binge-Worthy 1 months, 3 weeks ago
I’m not binging much TV these days. My wife and I are trying to not watch TV during the workweek. It’s a last ditch effort to try and actually do the things we say we love doing like gardening, biking, drawing, and reading. I have been working through a stack of comics that have sat on my bedside table for months. It’s an eclectic mix: Stan Lee…[Read more]

Ask A Question! 1 months, 3 weeks ago
Hey all,
Does anyone know if we need to do anything besides just publishing our blogs to get credit? I’m so used to submitting a link through Canvas for the professor, but we won’t really be using Canvas this semester other than to look at grades.

Looking under the assignments (https://287.hyperlib.sjsu.edu/assignments/blogging/), looks like that is it for individual blogs because of the feeds. I could be incorrect though!

@jwtalamantes We will use a feed reader or the site activity feed to monitor all the blogging (and assignments). Everything is submitted to Canvas via a URL to your blog. Blogging is submitted after you finish all five posts. From the assignment page for blogging:
All postings will be published to your blog by the date specified above. Because we…[Read more]

@jwtalamantes Of course! I am hoping to get the OPML file up in just a bit so everyone can try it. It really makes it so easy to monitor class blogging.

Ok, I’m going to guess you named your cat after celebrated comic book penciller and curmudgeonly old Canadian, John Byrne.
