@michael I am a few days behind, but for Module 11. I was reading Nygren’s “The Public Library as a Community Hub,” and statistics were quoted from Sweden that even though a high percentage had Internet access, a digital divide of 10% nonusers or folks that didn’t see the benefit of the Internet existed when the article was written in 2014… I…[Read more]

Hi @michael – for our Inspiration Report, can we make up a technology that maybe doesn’t exist yet to use in our space/program that we’re proposing? 😬🙈
-
@Caroline Hmmm… I would lean toward grounding the IR in a tech that is at least on the horizon. If you make one up there may not be literature etc on the tech. This final assignment is to demonstrate your mastery of our course topics with a deep dive of a new or emerging tech: “Create an examination of an emerging technology or participatory…[Read more]

Is Panopto down tonight? Was trying to watch Module 7 lecture (I know, module is 7/1 but hate being behind) and can’t get it to work. Will try again tomorrow!

Hi Dr. Stephens! Are you okay if our reflection blogs are slightly longer than the 200-300 word limit? I’m hovering around 400 words and want to know whether I should undertake more editing.

Hi @michael – Question about Assignment X – is the short reflection meant to be part of our post? Or separate from the post? Thank you!
-
@caroline it is all part of the post. Think about it as a reflection style essay on one of the facets of the first few modules that really resonated with you.

Hi @michael – question about Assignment X: The assignment says to choose from any topic from the first four modules, but the assignment is due at the end of the third module? I think I might be counting the modules incorrectly for the summer term? Can you clarify? Thank you!
-
-
Thank you @crain – you’re absolutely right. My brain defaulted to module # = week # and forgot about checking the course schedule. Thanks!
-
@Caroline No worries! Sorry to be out of touch… 14 hours in airports and on planes to get home. Thnaks for the assist @crain
-
@michael all good! Hope your journey homeward wasn’t as taxing as 14 hours of travel inherently sounds!
-
@Caroline It was a lot. Myrtle Beach to Atlanta then ATL to Detroit and then a late flight to Traverse City. Two full planes arrived at 11pm and the luggage took forever to get to the carrousel! I am rested now though.

I am trying to understand Feedly- when you responded to my blog, it didn’t pop up. Is it supposed to? I found your response because of email told me I had a comment, but wondering if I am also missing people commenting on others blogs. It said I had no new activity today minus one profile picture change in our entire class?
-
I checked and my Feedly doesn’t show comments on my own blog. For that I had to use the notifications either by email or on the top right of the screen on the course website if logged in, just to the left of my name and profile picture. I’m using Feedly to see updates on our course website and new posts by people in the community, but doesn’t see…[Read more]

@crain @alana42 these are great questions. And they are advanced questions. Everyone’s blog feed also has a separate feed for comments. If you take your blog URL and paste it into Feedly to add you should get an option to add the comments. The other thing is, you can follow the activity feed, which should include all blog count commenting unless s…[Read more]

I s this the activity feed? If so, it is not popping up. Not a big deal, just want to learn more about feedly/RSS feeds.: #hyperlib Site-Wide Activity
-
@crain there may be something up with that feed. Our IT folks are working super hard on updating all of our WordPress sites, including making the themes more secure, etc. so some things may have broken a little bit I can investigate.

I took this class because some parts of technology I am ignorant in, but want to learn…. hence yet another question- is Feedly free to use? Says free sign up on their page, but don’t know anything about it.
-
@crain There is a free version and a paid version. You do not need to pay to use for class. We’ll have about 35 feeds in the OPML.
-
I think it’s a good question to ask Jennifer, as I find working with digital technology tools that “free” can mean a lot of different things, and some tools free accounts can actually be pretty limiting. I’m glad that Feedly can handle what we need for class with a free account though!

Probably a silly question, but I am assuming we can change formats of the blogs as we write them? For example, can we dabble in a couple written, a couple video, a couple podcast, or would you prefer us to choose a format and stick with it?
-
@crain Yes – any manner of media is fine for blogging. I have a post about that queued up soon.

Hi Dr. Stephens, I just tried to click on the “share your intro post link” that you added in your new “Welcome to Module 2” post, but that link just routes to a “not found” page. Is there somewhere else you want us to post our intros?
-
@rcsyme Thanks for the heads up! I had a bad publish date. It was supposed to be today. It should work now.
-
Great; thanks!
-
@rcsyme 👍

-
I just did mine, but this assignment page states it isn’t due until 6/8 (https://287.hyperlib.sjsu.edu/course-info/course-schedule/)
-
@crain That is correct.

Hey all,
Does anyone know if we need to do anything besides just publishing our blogs to get credit? I’m so used to submitting a link through Canvas for the professor, but we won’t really be using Canvas this semester other than to look at grades.
-
Looking under the assignments (https://287.hyperlib.sjsu.edu/assignments/blogging/), looks like that is it for individual blogs because of the feeds. I could be incorrect though!
-
Thank you, I feel a bit silly having missed that crucial bit at the end.
-
-
@jwtalamantes We will use a feed reader or the site activity feed to monitor all the blogging (and assignments). Everything is submitted to Canvas via a URL to your blog. Blogging is submitted after you finish all five posts. From the assignment page for blogging:
All postings will be published to your blog by the date specified above. Because we…[Read more]

Thank you for the clarification Professor. I appreciate you taking the time.
-
@jwtalamantes Of course! I am hoping to get the OPML file up in just a bit so everyone can try it. It really makes it so easy to monitor class blogging.

In order to bridge this gap and ensure that those Swedes who want to get online can, a
