LOL, I can relate; it’s hard. Like giving up coffee, I can’t or don’t want to do it.
But in my case, when I go camping, that’s when I feel disconnected and without the need to look at my phone. -

The idea to have fee forgiveness is a fine one, because realistically if someone wanted to steal material a fee isn’t going to encourage them to bring it back either. It’s really a hold over from an older generation, but it does help put pressure on some to bring what they borrow back. It should be up to the librarian to make the choice to forgive the fee, because it’s as you say a human perspective. Giving access to loan extensions would help avoid those fees though, which typically as you said hits low income because they have less time to return the material.

Hi Laurel,
Great work on your innovation strategy. Gardening can be such a rewarding experience; I was lucky enough growing up to plant seeds and see them grow into corn, squash, beans, etc. The positive effects of these programs can be incredible, as they show that if you take care of a plant or tree, they will take care of you mentally and physically. -

Hi Denise,
Steam labs are an excellent choice, no doubt. They are programs in which everyone is eager to participate, and they can evolve with time as they don’t feel repetitive. As technology keeps on changing, so does Steam Labs.
Thanks for sharing. -

Hi Emely,
Great work on DocsTeach. I was unaware of their existence, but they seem an excellent tool for improving education in any school district. I’m exploring the website, and I will definitely use some of their activities. Thanks for Sharing -

I’ve spent a lot of time driving around California, and I’m always amazed by just how many areas have terrible cell service; likewise, the pandemic highlighted just how terrible some people’s home broadband really is, but between the cost for home internet and the infrastructure issues that make cell service questionable, there are definitely people being left behind who just don’t see the point.
Excellent work attempting to bridge that gap.

As I was reading the job description, I could not help but think about the librarians and other coworkers whom I have to work within a Library.
As you said at the end, professors show what a Liberian is in 2024. For some people who are not familiar with a Librarian job, it may sound overwhelming. For many of us, It gives a more accurate…[Read more] -

@deltoro87 Excellent points in this post about doing everything possible to do away with language barriers. I so appreciated the point about visual or verbal information!
I do an exercise and workshops I teach using emojis to tell someone’s story, and it’s always so fascinating:

Hi Rodrigo,
Thanks for highlighting the need to do multilingual outreach to immigrant communities. Recent immigrants, in particular, can feel very isolated and disoriented as they adapt to a whole new culture and learn a new language. I think libraries can do a lot to ease that isolation, and provide resources.
