I noticed a couple of Twin Peaks fans here in our course so I thought I would share this. This is entirely personal content, and do not worry about reading it if you are not interested. 😀😀😀
Addendum: we have a lot of students and info 200 looking at fan communities right now as their focus of their research papers and I think this is a really interesting example of fandom.
Hey all – I made that cryptic post a few days ago … here’s a bit more about the weekend away. Here is paraphrase of my Insta posts:
Whirlwind quick trip to Seattle for some serious Twin Peaks fan opportunities. This was all set in motion by my college buddy Matt: “it’s once in a lifetime…want to go?” Me: “Heck yeah!” The first event was Conversation with the Stars at the Neptune Theatre. The fans were out! The event opened with a screening of the TP season 2 finale — How’s Annie — and then a lively conversation with the stars.
And then: Return to the Kiana Lodge: this was an amazing event at an original filming location from the Twin Peaks pilot. The Kiana Lodge was used for exterior scenes as the Packard home and interior scenes as the Great Northern Hotel. Note that the log where Laura washed up on the shore has moved significantly in all these years. We met some very cool fans who would come decked out as Evil Cooper and Black Lodge Laura. Then we had meet and greets with Ray Wise and Sheryl Lee. There was a shooting location tour and a Q&A.
I have had a number of students in INFO 200 actually focused their work on the information community of fans and fandom and it’s absolutely amazing how much everything aligned with what those research papers have shared. Information grounds sprung up as fans conversed and shared stories and all of Hektor’s information activities were surely at play!
