From Site Formerly Known as Twitter: LIS Jobs Advice for New Grads
This week I'm asking people who hire library and LIS workers: We are nearing Spring graduation time. What advice do you have for new MLIS holders? I'm thinking both about their first post-MLIS job hunt, and in future career moves?

@Michael, I love that you refer to it as the “Site Formerly Known as…” 😂
It’s an interesting quandary–I wonder myself about what my next move will be after I receive the degree, but also hold in reverence the knowledge that things almost always do not turn out the way I envision or plan for them to.
-
🤣
Yes – it is a journey with the potential for twists and turns.

Hi @michael Should we wait as long as possible to turn in our participation links or is this a reasonable point to turn the link in? I notice I still have a number of comments not showing up because the blog owners have not accepted them yet, but I’d also like to be done with the stress of submitting something.

Echoing this question @michael!

Hi, Matilda! Your infographic is wonderful – so colorful and catchy! I especially love your “a-ha moments” – and calling the Human Library a “tapestry.” What an excellent metaphor. As a Sacramento native (displaced to the Bay), I’ll have to check out the Rolling Library Train next time I’m in town! It was a pleasure reading and engaging with your work this semester. All the best to you on your professional journey!
-
Thank you so much @gilbertmaryjoy The sentiment is entirely mutual! It has been such a pleasure being in this class with you and reading your work. I hope you do get to ride the train and that this concept expands more broadly! Best of luck to you with the rest of the program and all your future endeavors 🙂

Hi @matilda,
“This class was an amazing opportunity for growth and learning unlike anything I have experienced in my other classes.” I agree with what you said and feel exactly the same! The last couple of years I have been trying to work on changing my thinking and feelings and this class has been a good addition to this work.

Hi @matilda
I love the creativity behind your infographic. I had no idea there was a rolling library train in Sacramento (I lived in Davis for over 20 years before returning to the bay). I’ll have to check it out! Wishing you all the best in your future personal and professional endeavors!

Thank you @royaflin! Likewise!

A theatre and a cinema in one venue? Plus a restaurant and a library? Those are almost all my favorite things in one spot. Add a bookstore and some furry friends and I’d never leave.

Wow, they’re putting on a really broad range of material. This looks really fun too: https://www.storyhouse.com/whats-on/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-buffy-revamped/

This is really amazing. Seeing so many malls closing, spaces like those can be repurposed for community/arts centers like this one. I love it. I bet the later hours might be welcoming for people looking for a space to study, connect and relax before it’s time to head home and go to bed.

@michael, this link is not working for me
@emmizo What link?
@michael, sorry, the three purple dots in brackets after the word “Post” do not expand
@emmizo Not understanding… where exactly?
@michael I am sorry for the hassle. From my perspective in Site-wide Activity, the Share and Symposium post has an ellipses after you write “please share your URL here. Post [. . .]” The brackets are purple and should expand and it does not for me. The rest of the message is not there. I hope this helps.
The “Share & Submit Your Symposium!” link is not working either; I guess that is the same one.
@emmizo That is the weirdest thing. It is a bad link to a long gone web site for the class. This is the place to share your post and then submit to Canvas. I will look into that weird link deal.
Virtual Symposium – 5 Key Take Aways
Growth, openness, and advocacy.
Why does yours show up with a nice preview @laurele and mine is just a boring link? 🙁
@matilda I just wrote the little blurb, nothing special. 🙂
Weirdly, it is not showing the preview now like it was last night. Just your writing. There was a snippet in it last night.
