From Site Formerly Known as Twitter: LIS Jobs Advice for New Grads
This week I'm asking people who hire library and LIS workers: We are nearing Spring graduation time. What advice do you have for new MLIS holders? I'm thinking both about their first post-MLIS job hunt, and in future career moves?

@Michael, I love that you refer to it as the “Site Formerly Known as…” 😂
It’s an interesting quandary–I wonder myself about what my next move will be after I receive the degree, but also hold in reverence the knowledge that things almost always do not turn out the way I envision or plan for them to.
-
🤣
Yes – it is a journey with the potential for twists and turns.

@lauraw It does feel a bit like King’s Landing. The castle in Edinburgh rises above everything g. It is amazing.

A theatre and a cinema in one venue? Plus a restaurant and a library? Those are almost all my favorite things in one spot. Add a bookstore and some furry friends and I’d never leave.

Wow, they’re putting on a really broad range of material. This looks really fun too: https://www.storyhouse.com/whats-on/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-buffy-revamped/

Hi, Laura! I just wanted to leave a short comment commending the style of your presentation. Your layout choices are both accessible and authoritative, and feel quite polished and professional. Excellent work!
-
Ugh, THANK YOU, for saying so, MJ! I’m not gonna lie, Google Docs gave me so much guff with the formatting at the end, causing me loads of frustration, so I appreciate the shout out. : )

Lendable pets?? Mind blowing. I have never heard of this and I love it so much!
-
Right?! It resonated with me too when I read it in AL Magazine. I just love the picture too. 🥲 Thanks for commenting.
-
-
OMG, yes! Therapy in the most unassuming form. I wish all the best for your friend and her daughter.
-
@lauraw I love this and I didn’t realize that the lending of alternative items was called a “Library of Things.” I actually needed this term for my final research paper for another class! 🙂 It was very helpful!
I like the idea of these robotic animals. I definitely can see the benefit of them for elders who have memory issues. I have heard of baby dolls being used, but a robotic pet would be great too! My grandmother who is 98 years old recently lost her dog and has been having a hard time accepting and internalizing the loss. I think something like this could be helpful for her.
Great job of your project! I like how clean and easy to read it is too!
