Hello all!
For my Inspiration Report, I decided to explore take the Global Trends route and explicate Reporters Without Borders’ The Uncensored Library, a virtual library constructed in the video game Minecraft to house banned and censored journalism from across the globe in the name of preserving the freedom of the press and making silenced voices still capable of being heard. In examining this incredible piece of human art and advocacy, I propose how Minecraft can be implemented in libraries as a form of participatory design to build community and reinforce libraries as a third space. I happened to come upon an article talking about The Uncensored Library while doing research for this project when my original intent was to explore how Minecraft could be used as a way to craft book reports, and was so interested in the topic that I decided mid-project to redo my topic just to bring awareness to this amazing creation. You can view my project using this Canva link (because apparently it is too large of a PDF file to upload to WordPress…). Please use the hyperlinks in the Table of Contents to jump to the different sections for ease of access.
Thank you!

Hi Mary Joy,
Your inspiration report is well organized and thought out. The idea of using Minecraft for a participatory service is really modern and young at heart. So many young people play Minecraft. Your report reminded me of when players held a protest for Palestine on a Roblox server that made national headlines. So many good things can be accomplished in a collaborative game space.
