What stands out to me is the amount of community involvement. Since the plan so directly affects them, it is obvious to include them in making decisions. The library I work at recently created a 5 year strategic plan and was on the team of 7 members made up of library employees, friends volunteers, Advisory Board member, and one County…[Read more]

Yes! A space just for STEM would have huge benefits.

I agree that starting on common ground really helps a relationship build. It is a tactic I use when at a large event with people I don’t know, like a conference. I can be as simple as, “I see you have a Starbucks coffee. Isn’t it great to start the day with a nice cup of coffee.” Then boom, you are sharing stories. Or, in the very least, starting to talk.

Makerspace STEM Lab in the Library My Roadmap is a slide presentation. Please use the following link to view: STEM Lab and Makerspace in the Library slide show

@denise, well done! Your presentation was very pleasant to look at and easy to follow with thorough info. I was excited about this prospect after reading through it! I would LOVE to have this availed to my kids. It could even be expanded to an entire STEM facility/children’s space/library.

Hi Denise,
Steam labs are an excellent choice, no doubt. They are programs in which everyone is eager to participate, and they can evolve with time as they don’t feel repetitive. As technology keeps on changing, so does Steam Labs.
Thanks for sharing.

@denise so many interesting things Inc. into this post about the various folks we might be serving in our libraries. I’m going to hone in on the section on teens angle. Thank you offer some good ideas about how you might get more in tune with what’s going on with the young people. Does your library have a teen advisory board– that might be an avenue to explore as well.
Also, just thinking of the top of my head. If you could somehow get a focus group of teams into the library and give them food and ask them what they want that might be super interesting…

@denise those are some really good tips for strong storytelling in the library setting. I also appreciate your story about the little person and the books… so sweet.
