@michael Does the Inspiration Report need to be pitched at a specific (real) library, or can it be general? Like “Public and academic libraries can use this proposal to engage their user communities in XYZ” Thanks!
-
@arthurkolat Great question. It can go anywhere you wanted to go actually: you can target a real library, a fictional library, such as the Twin Peaks, public library or anything and everything in between. You absolutely could frame it as a report to a group of public and academic libraries.

@claireburke Sensory rooms and kits are a great idea. This reminds me of an art installation I once saw in NYC: LaMonte Young’s Dreamhouse, which is a continuous sound environment with sine wave drones that never stop playing! It’s a highly controlled environment that changes sensory perception and even invites a kind of meditative experience. I’m…[Read more]

Reflection on Infinite Learning_Library as ClassroomHere is my reflection on infinite learning as facilitated by the library-as-classroom, using my own work at the 2024 Los Angeles Libros Festival as an example. All feedback welcome!

@arthurkolat I so enjoyed the video. You brought all of the facets of the library as classroom to life. What wonderful feedback you received as well. And I must tell you I enjoyed the color of your crocs. 😀

@inabookbind Thank you for highlighting how important nature is to well-being. It reminds me of an article that identifies three main trends in recent library design, one of which is “The library as a highly sustainable green building that integrates nature and greenery in form of roof gardens or green spaces in a courtyard” (p. 239). Hooray for…[Read more]

@louis Thanks for your comment. I’m sorry I missed Make a Salad at the Disney Hall. I didn’t even think of how the whole performance must smell! That definitely adds a dimension that is not captured in the videos. BTW, I actually go the the Disney quite often because I subscribe to their Green Umbrella series (new music). Maybe we’ll run into each…[Read more]

@inabookbind Thank you for this closer look at Dokk1. It’s high on my library tourism list! I didn’t know about their partnership with Værestedet, the “drop-in centre”. The video also has a great translation lesson: that “være” means “to be” in Danish! Both the library and the drop-in centre are places where you can just be. A good lesson in l…[Read more]

@bklint Excellent video! Having the library host a sign-up for a walk that raises awareness and funds for suicide prevention sounds to me like the epitome of wholehearted librarianship / whole-person perspective. I’m sorry your efforts were shut down. It sounds like an initiative with great potential for community building.
Also, I’m becoming…[Read more]

@michael Very happy you enjoyed it. Regarding the salad piece…imagine buying salad ingredients for 1,900 people, as she did for the 2008 Tate performance. The salad keeps getting bigger and bigger over time. Here’s a great video that shows more of the Tate performance.

@arthurkolat So enjoyed this while I had my tea this morning. I appreciate where you took the idea of sharing food as a means to connect. The salad example is amazing.
The bowls are from IKEA … an old set we had on hand for years. Soup night IMHO requires a fresh different bow for each soup!

Hi Louis,
Thanks for the link to the Wiseman Retrospective! I live in Hollywood too (just moved to Little Armenia).
The Braille Institute Library sounds very interesting. I’ve never been there but would love to visit and learn more.
Cheers!
