Hey all – This in from Marc Mazique, SJSU Dec’22 grad and Seattle Public Library Adult Services Librarian for the Douglass-Truth branch:
Wanting to share this project I worked on post-election. I felt like folks needed books and resources to provide some new ways of thinking, tangible action ideas, and inspiration, and so I started developing this resource list I called The Path Forward. I drew upon books I know, and also gathered some ideas from colleagues, as well as doing specific searches in our catalog for books by certain publishers, such as AK Press. I collected the books onto a (thus-far) 133 item spreadsheet, with themes added in, and noting the formats available in our collection (audio, e-book, large print). I shared those across my ASL colleagues throughout the system. I then built a display, pulling books from both my branch and others, which I plan to keep going all year. I then created a small brochure with selected texts from each theme/category, and a QR code that links to a public version of my spreadsheet. I launched this at the beginning of the year, and the response has been very positive. I continue to add items as I find suitable texts.
This week, I worked with one of the librarians at our Central/Downtown branch who manages our system’s reader advisory lists and blog to help build out a two-part version of my list in Bibliocommons. This will hopefully make it even easier for both staff and patrons across the system to locate these items.

Anyway, wanted to share this with you. Your enthusiasm and commitment to connect with users helped guide me throughout this project. Thank you!
