Caught this on Gwinnett County’s Instagram last year:
So cool!
From the creator of the program:
All the pieces were either cut on draft board on our Glowforge, 3D printed, or were just basic paper shapes (like cut-out cards and circles as tokens). I can’t find the website I used to get some of the shapes of the figures, but I do remember designing a few as SVGs in Illustrator. You’ll often hear those shapes called “meeples”. For some of the boards we just taped several sheets of 11×17 together.
I emphasized heavily in my program that the artistic direction, other than that of knowing what your theme is, should be left for much later stages in the development progress. For example, the image below is what I show discussing Risk. For development purposes, all you need is the version on the right. There are a number of art styles for the board, but most of them boil down to the placement of the circles on the right.
We didn’t dig too deeply into the production phase of the game, but rather the development of the core concepts.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any more questions.
@michael I absolutely love this idea – it is so creative and cool! As an extension, the library could also host board game nights and have people bring their homemade board games. So fun!
@inabookbind Super cool idea!
