Hi, Roya! This was a fantastic and comprehensive summary of the course. I especially agree with #5 – the reflections were extremely useful and had me thinking and exploring my thoughts and experiences in combination with other classmates (including yours!) that I think overall really enlivened and expanded my understanding of what was already s…[Read more]

Hi, Christine! You did a great job with this recording! I agree that communicating with classmates was a “refreshing” experience – it’s *almost* like doing a group project, but way more expansive and really emulates how we use empathy in library spaces. Great work!

Hi, Sara! Weirdly enough, I was just talking in a discussion post for a different class about the translatable skills between customer service and our field. I think the forward-facing social aspect of reference service librarianship really caught me off guard when I first started working in a public library, but slowly became one of my favorite…[Read more]

Hi, Roya! As a librarian in Contra Costa, I just want to commend you for what a fantastic concept you’ve presented here. How much you care about foster youth really shines in the effort you’ve put forth in this project. Your contextual information and the statistics therein really blew me away, and underscored the need for the program you’ve desig…[Read more]

I just had the realization myself while kneeling to reshelve some books that, while I can see clearly across the whole library where I work just fine, my students (who are much shorter than I am) are not seeing the library the same way I am. I’ve made efforts to reconfigure so that a three-foot-tall mini-human has better sightlines of everything i…[Read more]

Hi, Kathleen! Colonial Williamsburg has been on my travel list for so long, and somehow I had never explored their virtual tours before! Thank you for drawing this to my attention and for the work you’ve done with your Inspiration Report. Hi, Matilda! Your infographic is wonderful – so colorful and catchy! I especially love your “a-ha moments” – and calling the Human Library a “tapestry.” What an excellent metaphor. As a Sacramento native (displaced to the Bay), I’ll have to check out the Rolling Library Train next time I’m in town! It was a pleasure reading and engaging with y…[Read more]

Hi, Jenny! Excellent work on this post. I want to thank you for the video you includes in this discussion; I think it does a fantastic job contextualizing why learning can feel so overwhelming in an age of access. You might find this Pew Research article interesting about the statistics behind how much content we consume on social media:…[Read more]

Hi Mary Joy,
Your inspiration report is well organized and thought out. The idea of using Minecraft for a participatory service is really modern and young at heart. So many young people play Minecraft. Your report reminded me of when players held a protest for Palestine on a Roblox server that made national headlines. So many good things can be accomplished in a collaborative game space.

Hi, Olivia! What a wonderful post. I especially appreciate the statistics chart you included in your reflections on the success of the Human Library, which really helped me quantify why this project would serve your community as it has for so many others! Hi, Savannah! Right off the bat I want to say that I love the sentence “Let’s talk about the mess.” Your writing style in this post does a great job juxtaposing the concepts that you and many of the readings for this week rightfully point out to be something “uncomfortable” and therefore difficult to hurdle and have productive conversat…[Read more]

@gilbertmaryjoy This is just so fantastic! I love it so much, especially recapping it all in the form of a poem . So creative!!
@gilbertmaryjoy. Forgot to mention that you have a lovely narrating voice!
This was like listening to a beautiful and brief audiobook of the semester! Your narration is so great, as are the words you used to sum it all up. Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Thank you so much, Savannah!
@gilbertmaryjoy I loved how you summed up your overall experience into a poetry format combined with narration and visuals! The five minutes past by so fast when I was watching and really felt like I was coming in to sit in for a story time, it was very relaxing to watch and listen to your symposium! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us 🙂
