@michael I agree. I think the virtual symposium was a great way to wrap things up.

@michael Just for clarification — when you say “final reflection” do you mean our virtual symposium, the last of our reflection posts, or something else?

@michael Thank you. That is very interesting, you’d think people would think of being with a loved one too. Times in life are also very significant because of who is there too.

@lauraw I love this and I didn’t realize that the lending of alternative items was called a “Library of Things.” I actually needed this term for my final research paper for another class! 🙂 It was very helpful!
I like the idea of these robotic animals. I definitely can see the benefit of them for elders who have memory issues. I have heard of…[Read more]

@lauraw That’s too bad. I can imagine it is hard to get people involved, unless they are really interested/have a passion for learning the language and being involved in preservation.

Hi @matilda,
“This class was an amazing opportunity for growth and learning unlike anything I have experienced in my other classes.” I agree with what you said and feel exactly the same! The last couple of years I have been trying to work on changing my thinking and feelings and this class has been a good addition to this work.

Hi Melissa,
It’s so sad how much violence has come into our world. When places like libraries and our children’s schools need to worry about violence and safety associated with it. There is also so much crime and violence these days in the rest of the world too. You go to Target now a days and everything is locked up and security is watching…[Read more] -

@lauraw I really enjoyed your thoughts on storytelling. I especially like the quote you shared — “The most important part of a story is the piece of it you don’t know.” I always feel like I want to know the weird side stories of a story or person’s experience more so than the actual story. Like with history, I don’t want to know about the big w…[Read more]

Thank you for the thoughtful comments @lauraw. This project ended up being very special to me. I am happy to hear of Mukurtu being used — and locally! 🙂 Do you know how successful the software has been for your tribe?

@matilda I am doing a research paper on the WPA’s Pack Horse Library Project of Eastern Kentucky. This library made self published scrapbooks from anything from magazine clippings, locals contributions of things such as quilt patterns or recipes, parts of falling apart books, etc. Inadvertently creating their own story through their innovation to…[Read more]

Hi Mikayla,
What a fun topic to learn about! I didn’t know that this was actually a thing!
My 98 year old grandmother recently lost her 15 year old dog and is devastated and doesn’t believe that the dog passed away. I think something like this could possibly be helpful for her during her grief and confusion.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Laurel
Thank you for sharing your thought process throughout the class. I really love a lot of your takeaways.
Thank you @kauthmeister! Good luck with your final assignment and the rest of the semester!
@laurele, lovely presentation! The design is polished and your sentiments and content are a wonderful wrap-up to the course. Well done. 👍 Gives me lots of inspiration for mine!
@lauraw Thank you! I hope your assignment/presentation goes well. I feel like I over thought things a bit, but that’s okay. 🙂
Hi @laurele I love your take-aways from the course! One of them made me chuckle, because it was advice I gave my son often during his formative year “Don’t be complacent”. In fact, it became a running joke between us, as he knew exactly when I would pull out that line. I even thought about using it in my symposium. I hear you about overthinking the assignment, I’m doing it also!
