A few months back (maybe 6-8?), I started Law & Order: SVU from season 1, episode 1, and have been working my way through the whole series. My mom and I love watching together, but since she’s in the LA area and I’m in Oakland, we don’t get to do it super often. But it’s been fun for us both to watch at our own pace and text each other during the exciting parts!

I’ve also been listening to a lot of Behind the Bastards. It’s a podcast where each episode does a deep dive into some terrible person throughout the course of history. There’s a great episode about Melville Dewey which I highly recommend! Did you know that despite being founder of the ALA, Dewey ended up getting blacklisted from it for sexual harassment? The more you know!

I also really enjoyed the episode on William Bailey, a fake doctor who sold various radium products marketed as health products in the 1920s. The episode also has a section on the Radium Girls, who I’d sort of heard of before but really didn’t know anything about. It really sparked my interest, and now I’m almost finished with Kate Moore’s book Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America’s Shining Women. I’m considering sticking with the radiation theme and finding a book on Chernobyl next, but we’ll see how I feel once I finish this one.

    • @vjavaheri I have watched SVU since the first season and it is now the only “regular” network show I watch. The show has changed over the years but I enjoy the storytelling and the “ripped from the headlines” stuff. Mariska Hargitay attended the Traverse City Film Festival a few years ago and it was AMAZING to see her in person.
