Hi, Matilda! Your infographic is wonderful – so colorful and catchy! I especially love your “a-ha moments” – and calling the Human Library a “tapestry.” What an excellent metaphor. As a Sacramento native (displaced to the Bay), I’ll have to check out the Rolling Library Train next time I’m in town! It was a pleasure reading and engaging with your work this semester. All the best to you on your professional journey!
-
Thank you so much @gilbertmaryjoy The sentiment is entirely mutual! It has been such a pleasure being in this class with you and reading your work. I hope you do get to ride the train and that this concept expands more broadly! Best of luck to you with the rest of the program and all your future endeavors 🙂

Hi @matilda,
“This class was an amazing opportunity for growth and learning unlike anything I have experienced in my other classes.” I agree with what you said and feel exactly the same! The last couple of years I have been trying to work on changing my thinking and feelings and this class has been a good addition to this work.

A theatre and a cinema in one venue? Plus a restaurant and a library? Those are almost all my favorite things in one spot. Add a bookstore and some furry friends and I’d never leave.

Wow, they’re putting on a really broad range of material. This looks really fun too: https://www.storyhouse.com/whats-on/buffy-the-vampire-slayer-buffy-revamped/

Hi, Laura! I just wanted to leave a short comment commending the style of your presentation. Your layout choices are both accessible and authoritative, and feel quite polished and professional. Excellent work!
-
Ugh, THANK YOU, for saying so, MJ! I’m not gonna lie, Google Docs gave me so much guff with the formatting at the end, causing me loads of frustration, so I appreciate the shout out. : )

Lendable pets?? Mind blowing. I have never heard of this and I love it so much!
-
Right?! It resonated with me too when I read it in AL Magazine. I just love the picture too. 🥲 Thanks for commenting.

-
OMG, yes! Therapy in the most unassuming form. I wish all the best for your friend and her daughter.
-
@lauraw I love this and I didn’t realize that the lending of alternative items was called a “Library of Things.” I actually needed this term for my final research paper for another class! 🙂 It was very helpful!
I like the idea of these robotic animals. I definitely can see the benefit of them for elders who have memory issues. I have heard of baby dolls being used, but a robotic pet would be great too! My grandmother who is 98 years old recently lost her dog and has been having a hard time accepting and internalizing the loss. I think something like this could be helpful for her.
Great job of your project! I like how clean and easy to read it is too!

Reflection on Hyperlinked Communities I strongly believe in the idea that libraries are for everyone. Putting that concept into practice feels overwhelming, however, I learned […]
-
I was in a library yesterday where they still had the big desk, but everyone was seated below eye level, which seemed to change the power dynamic. I thought it was interesting.
-
I just had the realization myself while kneeling to reshelve some books that, while I can see clearly across the whole library where I work just fine, my students (who are much shorter than I am) are not seeing the library the same way I am. I’ve made efforts to reconfigure so that a three-foot-tall mini-human has better sightlines of everything in the room, because it sure feels much more claustrophobic and overwhelming. It seems like such a simple concept, but much more difficult in execution, especially with a giant, sturdy circulation desk dominating a corner of the room.
-
That’s how it is at my local library. When they are seated they are below eye level. Often they’re standing though. It also used to be right next to the entrance, where it felt very much like a security checkpoint when you were leaving. Now it is against the far wall when you enter and it feels more like a concierge. I never really thought about it before because I am not particularly intimidated by approaching but now I wonder how other people see it.

Hi, Jenny! Excellent work on this post. I want to thank you for the video you includes in this discussion; I think it does a fantastic job contextualizing why learning can feel so overwhelming in an age of access. You might find this Pew Research article interesting about the statistics behind how much content we consume on social media: https://www.pewresearch.org/journalism/fact-sheet/social-media-and-news-fact-sheet/. There’s a nice infographic that helps illustrate not just the sheer size of the “information abundance” online, but how many platforms that make this information available to us at any given time.
Thank you for the additional resource on this topic, MJ! I’m glad you found my post useful, and I appreciate your encouraging response.
