Has anyone else read Filterworld: How algorithms flattened culture by Kyle Chayka? It’s an interesting, if mostly personal, look at the frustration of algorithmic recommendation. I wouldn’t say it was groundbreaking, but I enjoyed the exploration. Here’s a more critical review of the book: https://www.npr.org/2024/01/16/1225002436/book-review-kyle-chayka-filterworld
Thank you for sharing this! I’m always interested in hearing more about what’s going on with recommendations in digital spaces. I’ll check it out.
This book rocks! I got it for my library and shared with our Tech Team and we’ve now formed a mini-book club for the summer. I wasn’t the most knowledgeable about algorithims but it’s really opened my eyes to just how much they’ve been integrated in everyday life. Very crazy but I am glad I am reading.
I think it is definitely a worthwhile read! I hope your team enjoys the book club!
