Hey everyone! I’m Tina (she/her) and I’m based in the SF Bay Area. After not knowing what to do with my life post-undergrad, I somehow landed in the world of libraries. For a second, I thought that my role as Library Aide with San Mateo County Libraries would just be a stepping stone until I could figure out my next step. But as life would have it, I found community and belonging in this role. My coworkers were so supportive and slowly, I began to realize that what I’ve always wanted from a career — that is, the ability to make an impact, no matter how small, was right in front of me.
Fast forward two years, I am now almost done with my MLIS (e-port in the fall! Here we go!) and also work as a Youth Services Library Assistant at the South San Francisco Public Library. I truly enjoy working with the littles and hosting storytimes every week. Lately, I’ve been helping with our Summer Leaning Program which has been incredibly hectic, but also super fun. And I’m hoping that one day, I’ll become a Youth Services Librarian.
What led me to this course in particular? It was actually recommended by a colleague! They shared with me that this course was one of the most memorable during their time at SJSU, so naturally, I had to check it out. I’m also really curious as to how libraries are evolving and adapting in this age of technology. One thing I know for sure is that while AI is probably here to stay, us librarians and library professionals hold irreplaceable roles in a society built upon human-to-human connection and interaction. I’m curious to see how this concept can be expanded on in this course.
Let’s all have a great summer session! I’m looking forward to working with you all 🙂
On an entirely different note – Look! I ran into this sweet puppy at Ulta!

Hi Tina! We have similar stories; I also started working as a library aide at public library in San Mateo County while trying to figure out my next career move. I ended up loving it so much I decided to make the career switch, and here I am now halfway through the MLIS program! Looking forward to taking this course with you!

@tinazhen what a sweet friend you made at the Ulta! I appreciate your thoughts about AI and I’ve actually incorporated that new option for the inspiration report that allows students to think about the human aspects of AI and how we might use it to save time in busy libraries. Welcome to the hyperlinked library.
