I had a lot of fun in this class, so I decided to lean into the fun with the Virtual Symposium! I like to collect text and images from mail, brochures, magazines, etc. and I usually make them into collage pin-back buttons, but I figured they would also be great to use for a zine. So here is a zine I made to summarize my key takeaways from this course:

Hi Anita! I really love your symposium zine! It’s so fun and creative, and I love the images you chose. I used to collect images from magazines and make collages in my sketchbook. You’ve inspired me to start collecting again. I really enjoy the third page. Exploring through trial and error to find my story is basically a summary of my own discoveries throughout this class. I think there’s a lot of pressure to have everything figured out as an adult, but, of course, it’s not always that simple. People aren’t so simple. We should make space for ourselves and others whenever possible to make mistakes and try things out. I’ve been doing that, and although I’m still not 100% on my story, I’m excited to keep trying things to figure it out. Truly awesome work!
Hi @celestialcelery, I completely agree about holding space for people and giving them grace, since everyone has different life experiences that inform their respective worldviews. Plus, learning is a lifelong endeavor, so regardless of how far we are into our LIS journeys, I think it’s important to remember when interfacing with the public that we don’t know everything either (but we can still learn!). Thank you @mylifeastori, I really enjoyed your symposium piece too! It’s so fun how we took similar mediums and have similar messages, but our methods were so different. This was actually my first time making a zine, so I’m sure that with your junk-journaling expertise, any zine you make would turn out great too!

Thank you, @cassandra! I made the zine with paper and glue. I have boxes of random words and images I’ve collected at a faster rate than I’ve used them, so I just sifted through these with a general idea of what I want the zine to say until I had the words and imagery I needed! Then I scanned it at my local library and uploaded it to Canva so it can be flipped through like a real zine.
