Hi, everyone! And hi to the hyperlinked library!:) My name is Lydia Orendain and this is my second to last semester at SJSU. I have worked as a Library Aide at Foster City Library and as a Library Assistant at South San Francisco Library. I have seen the need for connection, community, and resources at both libraries and my love for expanding access to these things is what led me to enroll in this course. I love how the library serves as a fun and educational place for people to explore their relationships with each other, uncover their place in the world, and quench their curiosity:”) I’m especially excited to see how libraries have evolved, how they are evolving now, and how we can be a part of its becoming!
My interest in the LIS world falls in public libraries and film archives. I adore the community-building that public libraries lend itself to and I love the rich, and vastly uncovered, history of film. Studying cinema in undergrad has definitely led to that passion, and my time freelancing in the entertainment industry led me to become passionate about third spaces (specifically the home-base the public library provides for numerous people groups – families, after-school-teens, remote freelancers, etc…).
Outside of work and school, I’m a big fan of pop culture, movies, and TV shows (my undergrad was in cinema, and I worked in entertainment for a while!!:)) I also love cozy video games – Stardew Valley is my absolute favorite, and I’m prolonging my Tears of the Kingdom run-through so I don’t need to say goodbye! I also love plants, gardening, and crafting:) Hope we all have a fun semester together!
@lydiamaeoh I am so glad you found your way to this class. I think you will find inspiration here about how library users can quench their curiosity in the library space. All different kinds of curiosity, actually. I was thrilled to see that you studied film Film in your undergrad. I did a minor in film studies and a major in TV at IU. I am all about the pop culture too. And I watch all kinds of movies and TV shows. Still on a bit of a horror kick right now. Welcome to the hyperlinked library.

Horror lovers are in their bag this year, myself included. “Obsession” quickly rose to my top 3 favorite horror movies! Super excited to be in this class and learn what I can from you (and everyone)!
@lydiamaeoh How exciting to be so close to finishing the program. You have an inspiring enthusiasm for libraries and I’m giving a big amen to what you said about third spaces. I didn’t really understand that concept until I worked at a public library. It feels like those kinds of spaces are disappearing and that makes continued investment in public libraries feel even more important. Don’t we all want places we can go and connect with our interests and other people where we don’t feel any pressure to buy anything or be advertised to?
Hi Lydia! I am also at the end of my program. And I am also a fan of cozy games. Stardew Valley is the best! I’ve also recently had a revival of Dave the Diver, which I replayed to do a review for a website I was creating in one of my classes over the summer. I like Dave a lot, have you played that one? @lydiamaeoh We both work at a major urban public library system on the West Coast. I’m also a future youth librarian. I used to attend baby storytime with my neighbor and her baby and practice some storytimes that way. I’d be interested to hear more about what film projects you’ve been involved in, feel free to DM me. I have some friends in the SF Bay Area who write, act, and make stuff. I kinda put creative endevours on pause while pursuing library school. Anyways, cheers!
