I really thought I would get myself immersed in ideas for public library programming during this course- I do think that is the kind of library I want to find myself in again someday! But I couldn’t help but draw connections between what we were learning in class to my daily experiences at the law library where I work.
While there are distinctions and varying missions between academic and public library spaces, I think they can both benefit from prioritizing patrons’ stories.
Hence my inspiration report attempts to adapt the Human Library program for the academic library space. Students are humans too, after all!

I really enjoyed reading your inspiration report. I think bringing the Human Library model to law students is a great idea! Being a student can sometimes feel isolating or all-consuming. I liked that you highlighted this as a chance for students to be multifaceted and open. Something that stands out to me about the Human Library is how it really benefits both the “books” and the “readers,” and I can see how that would still be true in this setting. One idea for future expansion, if this goes well, is having outside”books” who have stories that were impacted by the legal system in various ways. Great report!
