For this assignment, I designed a strategy and roadmap to incorporate Hygge concepts into the Peter J. Shields Library at UC Davis and create a cozy library space supporting student well-being. Please click on the image below to view my Google Slides presentation, University Libraries and Hygge.

Hi Amanda,
I really love this proposal. And it’s so funny because I feel like I have been seeing the concept of hygge all over the place lately! The thing that sticks out the most to me about this proposal is how all encompassing AND specific hygge can be when applied to a library space. Hygge in the library seems obviously like having a comfy corner to read a book, but it could also be having a tea station, or having cozy craft resources, the umbrella of hygge can be expanded in the library to make sure that all patrons feel cozy and are working on self care and slowing down, even if that means something totally different to many different people.
Having a dedicated room that would ultimately be multipurpose as it would also host hygge related programs I believe would be very beneficial to patrons, specifically students since they are the demographic who probably need some tome to chill out the most.
Hi Amanda,
I really enjoyed reading through your slideshow! Thank you for introducing me to the term hygge. I can definitely seeing a Hygge Room benefiting students in large universities. When I went to a UC, I would have appreciated hygge especially during finals season and when the library was open for 24 hours straight. If your proposal comes into fruition, I would love to see this concept implemented in other UC libraries as well.
