Get to know me!

Hi everyone, I’m Karla (she/her), and I’m from central CA. I just started my MLIS journey in the spring. During my undergrad, I worked as a student assistant at the Reference desk at the campus Library and loved it. After many years of contemplating starting this journey, I finally decided to apply, and here I am. I’ve found that the Public Librarianship pathway combines a few of the things I enjoy: reading books, technology, the arts, and giving back to our community, just to name a few.

For the last 15 years, I’ve worked in tech, and I currently work in the IT department for the local hospitals in my city. Very different from a library setting, but still giving back to our community in a very different way.

In my free time, I like to play video games, read, and build LEGO sets.

Currently playing: Pokopia

  1. Hi Karla!
I am also interested in Public Librarianship and I’m happy to hear that the pathway combines your interests, especially in giving back to the community! We also share similar hobbies during our free time! I recently purchased the new Razor Crest Lego Set as a treat after watching the the Mandalorian. I also have Pokopia but have not played it past meeting the three Kantonian starters as I got OBSESSED with Tomodachi Life. Any Lego sets your keeping an eye out for?
    Here’s to a great semester! 🙂

    • Hi Eric,
Oh, you’re definitely going to have fun building that set! I’m a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda, I have my eye on the Great Deku Tree Set and Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle. For now, I’ve been collecting all the Botanical LEGO sets. I feel like Nintendo released Pokopia and Tomodachi Life too close to each other. I have yet to purchase Tomodachi Life, because I KNOW I will become obsessed with playing it. Instead, I’ve watched my favorite streamers play it on Twitch, and it is so unhinged, I love it.

  2. @kavel I love your description of why you were drawn to public library work. All of the things you mentioned resonate and I think you will find inspiration in this class for many of those things. Welcome to the hyperlinked library!
