@yoli, I really like your idea of a chapter a day book club. So many of the older classics are so long that they are overwhelming, so I can see this being a great attention grab for people who think they don’t have time to read. I also like the idea of an ongoing online discussion. I would be so interested in participating in that. If I read a book but then have to wait until the end to discuss it, I will forget much of the plot. I also need time to hear a question, and then formulate a response, so having the discussion online would be perfect for others like me. You have great ideas for expanding the book club to in-person gatherings if people want, watching screen adaptations of the books, and of course, who doesn’t love a mini-tote bag? Great job with your project!
Hi Jen, thank you! I was trying to think of a book club that I would want to join, and this was it for me. I really, really enjoy older classics but it’s difficult to finish quickly (hello, David Copperfield). I’m totally with you regarding taking the time to reflect and formulate proper responses to discussion questions. Thanks so much for the feedback, it really means a lot!
I think your serial style book club is a great idea! I would totally participate. This reminds me of Wattpad, a story sharing website that has a strong social component. I have often found myself reading a regular book and wishing it was a Wattpad story because I needed to share my reaction to the story with someone. I really like how your program recreates this. Using public domain stories is a great idea, and I really liked your ideas for future expansion to include in-person activities and merch with art from a local artist to increase engagement. Hi Rachel, thank you! I agree with you; sometimes when I’m reading a story, and something major happens, I need to commiserate with someone about it. I appreciate your comments about my expansion ideas; I feel like libraries should do more collaborations with local artists and shine a spotlight on their work. Thank you again for the kind words!
