A Little About Me…

Hi everyone!

My name is Jennifer, and this is my second to last semester of the MLIS program.  I’m currently working as a library clerk at a small public library in Southern California. Prior to starting my MLIS  journey, I worked in animal welfare and the veterinary field for many years. In the future, I hope to have a public facing library position as I thoroughly enjoy interacting with patrons and assisting with outreach and programming.  Outside of work and school, I enjoy crocheting, hiking, cooking, and reading.  I’m currently embarking on a Jane Austen year in 2026 by reading all of her novels and watching different adaptations of each (currently in my reread of Emma).

This course has been on my radar since I took INFO 200 my first semester. I’m glad I was able to fit it in! The shifts in what services and programs libraries offer as technology and user needs change are so exciting to me. I love discovering what creative programs other libraries offer and seeing how makerspaces and Library of Things evolve. I’m hoping this class helps me to better understand how to use emerging trends and technology to help create programs and collections that better engage and serve my library community.

And just for fun, here is a photo of my new desk buddy and first pet jumping spider, Little Spood.

Little Spood is a top tier name for this marvelous creature. 10/10 Content.

I’ve yet to read any Jane Austen- is Emma the one you’d recommend? One of the students I work with actually did her senior capstone project analyzing Austen’s work and film adaptions, which sounded so fascinating.
