I really enjoyed your presentation! It was concise, engaging, and near and dear to my heart. I love cooking and eating. The cost of food is a real issue in our country as is access. American’s health has been a long-term concern as well. I love the empowerment aspect of this initiative. Knife skills are so essential and a lot of people never learn proper technique and safety. What a wonderful program that could really enhance people’s lives!

I really liked your roadmap on Kitchen Connections. Food and cooking is such a powerful thing: it brings people together, it’s a sharing of culture, it taps into creativity, it teaches you a variety of skills (patience, multi-tasking, minutiae, etc) … Coming from a different country, I feel like in traditional American households, cooking is not emphasized that much, which means that some people can miss out on that. Therefore, it is a great idea to offer this opportunity. They can learn (which is always something you want to do at the library!), they can share (America has such a diverse population), and they can create community. While also tasting some amazing food.
You’re making an excellent point by bringing up the increasing price of groceries, which definitely highlights the benefits that this program can have on all people: from students who don’t know how to cook and would need to eat healthier meals to people who are most vulnerable to this inflation and need a way to put together cheaper yet nutritious meals.
PS: The way you presented the references as a footnote on each slide is an excellent idea.
