Introducing Chelsea

Welcome everyone! My name is Chelsea Bradley, and I am in my final semester of the Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program here at San Jose State University. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Forensics and Criminality from the University of Southern California (Fight On!). Over the past year and a half, I have worked as a Library Assistant at my hometown public library, which is the very same one I grew up visiting. Before that, I gained four years of valuable academic library experience at USC’s law and medical libraries. I am deeply passionate about education, information literacy, and the role of libraries as inclusive community and information hubs. As a first-generation, low-income college graduate, I am especially committed to supporting first-gen students as they navigate the challenges of collegiate research, writing, and information access. My goal is to help empower all individuals, regardless of background, with the tools and confidence to succeed through equitable and transformative library services. I believe this course will help me connect individuals from all walks of life with their various information needs. I cannot wait to learn together in this course!

From left to right: My nieces Pearl and Avery, myself, and a friend at Storytime at the library I now work at.

Besides the academic background and my career goals, these are some of my favorite things. Comment down below if we have anything in common!

  • Author: Kristin Hannah
  • Book: The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
  • Drink: Coffee
  • Show: One Tree Hill
  • Singer: Taylor Swift

  1. @itschelsea greetings and how fun to read about your experience and your time in libraries. Also, I am thrilled that you have shared your focus on empowering individuals as you go forward as an information, professional. Your insights and experience as a first generation student will be so useful as you find your way into a professional position.

      1. Hello! Sorry for the late reply. This got buried in my notifications. Yes, I had issues signing up at first, and two got created. You may delete the other one, and I apologize for the inconvenience!

  2. Hi Chelsea B.!

Congrats on your soon-to-be completion of the MLIS! It’s been a pleasure to work alongside you- I know you’re going to do great things in the field.

I have The Great Alone and Summer Island on my to-read list from K. Hannah. I’ve also read The Nightingale, The Four Winds, and The Women. I feel like they’ve all been life-changing novels, and almost all of them have me ugly-crying. Are there any other books by her you’d recommend? I think she may be one of the most important authors of our lifetime.

    1. Hi CJ! I am happy to have you in another class with me! You have excellent taste in authors, and I agree that they are life-changing. Did you see that The Nightingale is being made into a movie, and that it is supposed to be released in 2027? I hope they do it justice! I recommend you read The Great Alone next.

Good luck this semester! How far along are you now? If I recall correctly we started roughly at the same time.

      1. Awesome- I have TGA ready for my next Audible read. We did start at the same time, and I took summer courses too! I’ve decided to go for an emphasis in special librarianship and digital services, so I want to make sure to hit all those requirements before graduating. I may need to take a step back next semester and pace myself because I’ll likely have to move one way or another in May 2026. In the meantime, I’m chugging along and enjoying the journey. I cannot wait for the release of the film! I hope they do it justice to and continue with her other books. I can’t wait to see what we both make of this course. I know it’s going to be good!
