A Little About Me!
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my introductory blog post. My name is Nimaliny Kumaradevan and I am currently in my second semester of the MLIS program at San Jose State University. I have been fortunate to work at various Toronto Public Library (TPL) branches and departments in various job titles as a page, public service assistant, payroll clerk, and accounting clerk. Currently, I am working as a library assistant, and my dream is to become a children’s or youth librarian. Working as a front-line worker allows me to interact with patrons and hear about the different information and technological needs they have. At my branch, I have assisted the librarians in various programs like computer basics, colour by number, coffee & conversation, and chess club which brings the community together. These programs have been valuable in allowing patrons to meet and get to know each other.
I decided to enroll in the Hyperlinked Library course because the past MLIS students were highly recommending this course on SJSU’s Facebook pages and the topics covered on the syllabus appealed to me. As an employee of TPL it is especially important for me to learn about innovative pathways of offering services to the patrons of Toronto. We need to keep up with the technological advances taking place around the globe to remain a relevant community hub and incorporate patrons’ needs into our programs. I hope to gain valuable information about hyperlinked libraries through this course and apply it at my public library organization.
Below is a photo of my cat and dog from my hometown in Sri Lanka. I miss them dearly as I only get to see them for a month each year.
