Hello world!

Introduction:

Hello, I am Heather Kirby and I currently live in the Salt Lake City area of Utah. I grew up in Southern California. My undergrad was English, and I have spent many years in Education, mostly Elementary. I am licensed as a teacher in Utah. I currently work as a school librarian and teacher at a small private school. My library used to serve K-8, but has transitioned to serving just K-5. I am in the process of weeding and updating our library for this change.

I am pursuing the MLIS to gain more opportunities, so I can get licensed as a media specialist to work in public schools if I wish, and to be able to move into a public or academic library if that works out. I volunteer at my local public library and really enjoy helping with programming. In some of my recent classes, I’ve also been drawn to collection management and library administration. I am taking this specific course to better understand modern libraries and user design in the digital world. I am 2 ½ years into the program and this is my last semester before doing the ePortfolio. If I stay on track, I will graduate at the end of May 2027.

A unique “hobby” of mine is that I love theater and go to local productions almost every month. I also love costumes and do some historical dance. Recently I’ve gotten back into the craft of jewelry-making and beading, and I’ve been enjoying making beaded keychains.

Hi Michael! Thank you for reading and commenting on my blog. I’m glad you enjoyed my blog name–I do like puns and word play. 😀 I was pretty happy when I came up with it.

  2. Hello Heather,
Your blog name is so creative and fun! I also wanted to take this course to understand modern libraries and learn more about how we use hyperlinks within them. This is my last semester in my MLIS and I am taking e-port with this one. E -port has already taken over my life and I am ugly crying (just kidding). I am really looking forward to getting through this program and I wish you the best of luck in completing yours!
