Introduction: An Adventure in Dictionopolis
Hi all. I’m Amy (she/her) and I am in my final semester in the MLIS program at SJSU. I’m from Texas but currently live near Missoula, MT with my 6 year-old miniature pinscher mix, Mia. I haven’t yet had the opportunity to work in a library, but I practically grew up in the public library and my school libraries. Until I can get my foot in the door, I register vehicles and collect property taxes for my county treasurer’s office. My career goal is to work in a teen library space, but I’m also looking at various library positions as well as non-profit organization work.
My favorite things to learn about people are what music they’re listening to and what books they’re reading. So I’ll go first. I’m currently reading The Bewitching by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia. I’m not very far into it yet, but I’m loving it. Gothic horror, ghost stories, witch stories. Set half in 1990s New England and half in 1900s rural Mexico, although I think there may be a third timeline introduced soon. I’ve been dipping into the horror genre lately as its a genre I hadn’t really read before and I’m loving it.
I’m always listening to a bunch of different music, but lately I’ve been switching mainly between Aurora and Medium Build. I just got to see Medium Build open a show in Missoula and it was a bucket list experience. The only thing that could have made it better is if they were headlining and performed every song they’ve ever recorded! I’m sure I’ll be having my hot-girl-summer soon with Sabrina Carpenter’s new album coming up.

@aimes2025 @aimes2025 greetings and what fun to get to know you. I will dive right in with what I’m reading: there’s a new book out, called The End of the World as We Know It, and it’s an anthology of stories set in the world of Stephen King’s The Stand. It is absolutely amazing because I read The Stand in 1978, probably a little much for a 13-year-old, and I thought it was the most amazing novel I’ve ever read, and it probably still is in the top five. As to music, I think I mentioned somewhere that I’m a huge Fleetwood Mac fan and also have really been enjoying curating playlists in my Apple Music. Welcome to the hyperlinked library.

Hello!
We have a lot in common! Congratulations on your last semester! I am also in my last semester, and I am very excited to be done soon. The book you are reading sounds very interesting. I love a good witchy book. The picture of your dog is adorable. I also have a small dog named Auggie. Good luck on your last semester!

I love how you are using Story Graph! I am @bern_escamilla if you want to connect. Have you read The Divine Inheritance of Orquida Divinia? It first came to mind when you mentioned Sylvia Moreno-Garcia. I read Mexican Gothic a while back and enjoyed it!

I haven’t read that book but I’m pretty sure I have something else by Zoraida Cordova on my TBR. I also have Mexican Gothic but haven’t read it yet. Bewitching is my first Sylvia Moreno-Garcia so I’m pretty excited to read more from her.
