We don’t often hear the library world talk about being disrupters. It’s the antithesis of the order and structure we crave to bring to all manner of things. However, we can’t allow this part of ourselves to work against us!
In response to Assignment X, and as I try to formulate the type of librarian I want to be, I’ve created the following video podcast. This is Episode 1, of what I plan to be a series, on disrupting the library strategic planning process in service of greater library and information profession goals.
The credits and citations are at the end of the podcast. I created the theme song with perplexity.ai, using a prompt that requested a theme song in the style of a 70’s children’s educational program, centered on library strategic planning. I used lyricstomusic.ai for the music, and Canva to create the graphics.

First of all, what a cute introduction to your podcast with Stan and the music! I resonate your statement that, “libraries can get in a rut and it is up to us to think about innovation”. As a librarian in a small midwest town, it is very easy to get focused on what is working, and forget to keep innovating. You also mentioned physically out of the library to assess the community. This is something that I had not thought of. We love our surveys, but there is a lot of information we can gather from simply looking around. Great podcast!
