Short Biography

Introduction!

Hi everyone,

My name is Camillia and I am currently a third year student at SJSU! I live in Southern California and currently work for the L.A County Library System. My first library job was for a local library system, which I worked for three years before getting my current job. My goal is to be a librarian specializing in collections management and cataloging. I chose this class because I would like to learn about the impact of emerging technologies on the LIS field and libraries as a whole. As you can see from my blog site, my favorite Disney character is Mushu from Mulan and my profile picture is a stuffed eagle baby that I got during a trip to New York City (I do like to travel occasionally). I most excited about using WordPress rather than Canvas for a class because it is unique and gives me the opportunity to practice creating blogs!

Thank you so much for reading! I look forward to meeting all of you!

    Hi Camilllia!

It’s so nice to meet you! I love the title and theme of your blog. Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies and I have seen it many many times. What drew you to collection management and cataloging?

      Hi Jenn,

Thank you for commenting! My passion for collection management and cataloguing first came about when I worked under the public service librarian in my previous job. The librarian tasked me with handling the children’s collection, which included relabeling, modifying their MARC records, etc. I got a little bit more experience with MARC records during introduction to cataloging course with Mary Bolin and as much as it was a lot of work, it was a fun course.

    Hi Camilla,
great to be one of your classmates! I took Professor Bolin’s cataloging class over the summer and found I really liked it. It was a surprise for me, abd a challenge at first (and still, a little bit) to wrap my head around the standards, systmes, and wrappers – but also very satisfying. I’m wondering what the future of catalogging looks like. Anyhow, thanks for your introduction!
    Cheers!

      Hi George,

I do think that the class was challenging but the way it was organized was perfect for students who are learning about cataloguing and MARC records for the first time. In fact, the public service librarian, who handles the cataloging of collections for the branch, stated that Dr. Bolin taught me better than her own professor. She actually requested that I make a copy of my last assignment from that class to use it as a reference.

@ctaher so nice to read about your background and your interests in the field. I am glad you are interested in this course playing out in WordPress. I hope this gives you a good chance to customize and explore all the different ways we can use contact management systems in our work in libraries. Welcome to the hyperlinked library!

Hi @ctaher. Thanks for commenting on my first post.

Mushu is awesome. I liked reading about your library experience and goals. I share your love of cataloguing and look forward to the days set aside for it (non book exchange days; in an elementary school, they get a little too chaotic for much else lol).

I look forward to seeing how you approach your blog.

    B.
