The idea for this inspiration report was came out of a conversation I had with a library customer. Her name is Enfys which is Welsh for rainbow 🌈. She is losing her vision and her memory isn’t as good as it was, so art and technology programs would not work. Discussing possible ideas with ChatGPT led to memory cafés, a global trend in library services. The report is written for the Toronto Public Library, which currently does not yet host memory cafés.

Hi @daisychia I think you’ve done a great job with your inspiration report. I especially like the layout of looking like a newspaper. I think it’s great that this was inspired by a “real-life” patron of yours, how heart-warming! Thank you for sharing, I can see this being a popular program for many public libraries.
Thanks @ali0. It was laborious and I feel relieved to be done. I was inspired to make it look like a newspaper from another student from the project exemplars!
Hi Daisy,
I really enjoyed your report! I thought your use of quotes and images was really thoughtful and enhanced the information you shared. These memory cafes seem like a great idea to deepen the senior-focused social/health offerings at the library.
I agree Ian. When I get older, I hope things like this exist to support me and my family.
Hi Daisy,
I enjoyed reading your report! Senior-focused programming supports caregivers as well, and I think that programs and services like the ones you highlighted create a community where seniors, caregivers, and family member are able to connect and share their experiences with each other.
Thanks Amritha. One of the issues I was thinking about that I did not have time to address was language barriers. I know a colleague who has a parent with dementia and thought about how a program like this might be so helpful. But because of language and cultural barriers, they might not feel comfortable to attend. So culturally relevant cafés might also be something to consider whether its through staff that can speak the language or through the activities.
