Hello INFO 287 class ! Surely I’m not the only one feeling a tad overwhelmed as we attempt to hit the ground running with summer session. I’ve always struggled a bit with transitions, so the beginning and ending of semesters I try to give myself extra TLC as I adjust to new routines. Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to reading up everyone’s blogs this semester and learning about the Hyperlinked Library !
A Little Bit About Me
Here’s a collage I created for when I first had to introduce myself in INFO 203 back in Fall 2024. I had to compress this image to be under 2mb to meet the upload requirements, which has caused a lot of color banding (I had to look up the term for it). It’s a simple concept but it never occured to me that I could just compress any image to get that effect! Anyways, this collage is almost a year old but I like to share it because I think it represents me pretty well—I like flowers, clouds, collecting library cards, pokemon, pikmin, sweet pastries, and coffee ! Feel free to reach out to me via email if any of these strike your interest as well.
A Little Bit About the Grove
Last night I was contemplating about what to name my blog. I can get pretty indecisive about naming things as if it’s a big permanent decision like getting a tattoo. I closed my eyes and tried to visualize what I think about the hyperlinked library and immediately thought of trees. I’m not sure what the trunk of the tree would represent, but I think branches and roots and root systems that connect with other trees can be a decent visualization for how online resources link to one another. I liked the ring of the word “grove” so here we are now !
Best of luck to my fellow classmates and have great first week(end) of summer session !

Rieko,
Do live in Japan or are you Japanese? When I read your name and saw your intro collage, I thought of my 14 month time in Japan. I enjoyed Japan, but I do not ever remember going to a library there. I am wondering how they differ from American libraries? My mind paints them to be more digital and advanced in technology than an
American Library. Maybe you are not in Japan or do not even know anything about Japan. I was just thinking and remembering my time in Japan and decided to think out loud.
Have a blessed day.
Maria
Hi Reiko,
I really love your collage. It is very cute! I also enjoy sweets and almond croissants are one of my favourites. Recently I worked at a library branch right next to an amazing french bakery with very good and heavy almond croissants. It was enough to fuel me for half a day at least. I miss those croissants.
I appreciate the thoughtful name choice for your blog as well. Trees are so interconnected through their root system communicating through fungi about threats and dangers. The author of “The Hidden Life of Trees”, Peter Wollheben, calls it the “wood-wide web”.

Nice to meet you Rieko!
A graphic like this is such a creative way to introduce yourself. It has a vision board vibe, and I really like that. I resonate with your blog as a whole, even the smallest details (having a category called “yap sesh” is iconic). I am looking forward to reading more of your blog and learning along side you this semester!
Best,
Lindsay
Hi Rieko,
Just wanted to say hi and that I am feeling overwhelmed, too. A LOT has been introduced to us in a short amount of time! I like your collage! That birthday bouquet is beautiful. I like flowers, sweet pastries, and coffee, too. I don’t know how to make bouquets, but am happy to receive them (lol!). Thank you for sharing how you came up with The Grove–very cool. Looking forward to delving into this class this summer.

@rieko Hello! I really like the name of your blog. Grove feels to me like a place to think, share, and be in the midst of growing things!
I like your collage as well.
Welcome to #hyperlib!
