Devon, I really resonated with your thoughts! I wound up taking maybe 6 weeks away from this course while I kept up with the rest of my course load, and a very big, exciting life event that took up a lot of time. And at the same time, the relentless stream of news of dismantling of the government, stripping away of rights, and ICE raids was a constant background. What you said about optimism is spot-on. I don’t think we could be here if we weren’t optimistic about something–the idea that we can make our communities better, or even just that taking these classes and getting this degree will improve our lives and capabilities in some way. But damn is it hard right now!
