Thanks, George. I’m really interested to see where information retrieval goes with machine learning. It seems like we’ve plateaued a bit with BM25 as a ranking algorithm for search results.

I also feel a twinge of environmental guilt when I use ChatGPT, but I’ve also used it pretty effectively for brainstorming. I’ve been trying out running models on my desktop or laptop using LM Studio (closed source) and Anything LLM (open source). I figure this way I am using fewer resources and internalizing the cost.

Thanks, Tessa. I’ve used ChatGPT as a kind of final check on work, but that’s about all. It’s useful for identifying possible improvements but the thought of using it for actual content I would share is almost unthinkable to me. I suspect we’re in for some generational reckoning with social norms around AI.

Thanks, Sue! I haven’t streamed as part of professional work, but a friend and I did some informal streaming on Twitch. It’s a fun medium and I enjoyed the interaction with chat.

Hosting a gardener seems like just the thing! I was pretty chuffed to see my local library shared their community survey, which I used to inform the livestreaming plan.
