My name is George Rothrock  – I am excited to be taking this course as I am deeply interested in modernizing my view of the library.  I have come at this course from a starting point of interest in the under pinnings of information science – taxonomy and organization, grown from my career in video game design and development and my primary hobby of audio production. However, some time volunteering at my local library has opened my eyes to the amazing institution that is a community based library.

Edit:

My avatar is a cartoon of me made by a friend for my voice over and audio work. “grafzepp” is an sobriquet given to me decades ago for my interest in early lighter-than-air technology and air travel.

    Hi George,

Similar to you, I initially became interested in becoming a librarian after I worked at my first public library job for 1.5 years. I think working at a public library has enabled me to better understand my community and gives me the opportunity to assist people from various socioeconomic backgrounds and provide services to diverse communities!

  2. @graffzepp I am thrilled you are in class with me again. Nice to read a bit more about your background and your interest in lighter-than-aircraft. When I was little, I was obsessed with Zeppelins and especially the Hindenburg.

Your avatar is very cool. Also, if you are inclined, you can bring in your audio production skills to your work in this class, perhaps through an audio blog post if you are interested….
