Looking back across our journey in INFO 287: The Hyperlinked Library, my perspective on what a library can be has fundamentally transformed. Moving beyond static repositories of information, I now see libraries as dynamic, participatory, and deeply human-centered hubs. To synthesize my learning, I\u2019m using the <\/span>3\u20132\u20131 Reflection<\/b> framework to highlight three major “aha!” moments, two ideas I am eager to explore further, and one concrete action plan for my future professional path.<\/span><\/p>\n Early on, it was easy to view emerging technology through a purely functional lens\u2014tools to automate processes or organize collections. However, through our weekly discussions and readings, my biggest lightbulb moment was realizing that <\/span>technology in a hyperlinked library serves as a conduit for human connection<\/em>.<\/em> True innovation isn’t about adopting tech for its own sake; it\u2019s about using modern tools with radical empathy to lower barriers, foster inclusivity, and build responsive environments where every community member feels heard.<\/span><\/p>\n My perspective on artificial intelligence shifted dramatically during the <\/span>Inspiration Report<\/em>.<\/em> Rather than treating AI as a quick search engine or an administrative shortcut, I explored its potential as an active <\/span>thought partner<\/span><\/i>\u2014specifically to help patrons navigate library career pathways and skill development. Seeing how AI can spark curiosity, help draft ideas, and offer personalized learning journeys opened my eyes to how hyperlinked librarians can curate and guide AI-driven experiences while maintaining ethical standards and human oversight.<\/span><\/p>\n Developing the proposal for the <\/span>Community Music Archive and Sound Library<\/b><\/em> during our Innovation Strategy project solidified my understanding of participatory culture. Libraries shouldn’t just deliver content <\/span>to<\/span><\/i> a community; they should co-create content <\/span>with<\/span><\/i> them. Preserving local audio histories and local music demonstrated how libraries can act as living archives of local culture, giving patrons direct agency over their shared heritage.<\/span><\/p>\n Building on my roadmap for the Community Music Archive, I want to dive deeper into how small-to-midsize public and academic libraries can sustainably manage participatory digital creation spaces. How do we balance open-access community submissions with digital preservation standards, rights management, and intuitive UX design? I want to keep researching tools and workflow frameworks that make participatory media archives manageable for staff while keeping them deeply welcoming to local creators.<\/span><\/p>\n AI is rapidly changing how patrons seek and interact with information. I am eager to explore how librarians can take the lead in facilitating AI literacy workshops and building ethical AI framework guidelines. As libraries integrate AI tools for career navigation, discovery, and learning, establishing robust policies around algorithmic bias, privacy, and digital equity will be critical to maintaining public trust.<\/span><\/p>\n Moving forward in my professional career, my immediate goal is to champion <\/span>participatory design in library programming<\/b>.
