Virtual Symposium- The Journey

For my virtual symposium I chose to do a graphic showcasing what I see as the journey of a librarian. I used space as a metaphor because I think we all grasp the sort of expanse of space, which to me can be representative of what there is to learn in the field. Infinite.

Basically, endless possibilities that we as information professionals get to explore.

I also wanted to pick something kid friendly in design. I don’t remember much talk of becoming a librarian when I was a kid, and I think something like this could be a poster in a library or a classroom to inspire the next generation.

This class has been a blast! Thank you everyone 🙂

Inspiration Report – LUMEN

For this assignment I decided to create an app (maybe design is a better word) to cater to the needs of librarians and library staff. This report is designed to pitch the idea to the audience and explain what LUMEN can offer staff.

I realize we focus a lot on library communities and patrons but not as much on the needs and well-being of library staff. I’ve read about other existing programs with similar ideas but I thought the concept for an app designed to create a global microcosm aimed at library workers would be a cool idea. LUMEN (Librarians Uniting for Mentorship, Education, and Networking) is meant to offer resources and a chance for personal connections between LIS professionals across borders.

Yes I realize the button looks a little dated, like it belongs on an old iPhone but I still love that aesthetic. We can always upgrade later 😉

For the format I chose google slides.

Should work for anyone signed in to their SJSU account but if not let me know.
