For this inspiration report assignment, I ultimately ended up being drawn back to the topic I’d chosen for INFO 200’s final paper on information communities. In that class, I focused on online fandoms as my information community. Building off of that interest and knowledge, I decided to actually delve into an idea I’d heard of some libraries engaging in: comic-cons at the library!
Depending on how you view it, to me this encapsulates 3/4 of the thematic options for the inspiration report: tech & trends (for it seems to be something that libraries are starting to pick up and implement in their own ways), the power of stories (in terms of how they derive from the stories that fans are drawn to in their respective fandoms and how that serves to bring people together) and even infinite learning (depending on the experiences, events and programs that such a comic-con event can offer).
HERE is the link to my inspiration report! 💬💥
Hi Ramasha,
Thank you so much for putting this together! We have been talking about the potential for putting on a Comicon at our library. We have had really successful Mario and Star Wars days, and I think the natural next step is a Comicon event. The information and links you provided are going to help us refine our ideas and reach out to other libraries to see what worked and what didn’t.
Wow, I’m super stoked that my presentation helped provide some extra information & ideas on that front! I hope that the Comic-Con event at your library goes well 😊
Hi Ramasha,
So cool that you made the layout of the report comic style! I also think its a great choice to focus on fandoms, because that’s something that appeal to a variety of ages and backgrounds, while also possible utilizing a collection that already exists in the library.
Hi Tyler,
Thank you, and good eye! I wanted to go harder on the comic-style theming but unfortunately just didn’t have the time (and enough creative capabilities 😅) to pull it off the way I wanted so I had to simplify it. I’m glad it still manages to come across!
Also, I totally agree about the broad appeal of fandoms! I think it’d be a great way to generate interest in the library, by seeing that it can thoroughly appeal to both academic and leisure pursuits.
