An Introductory Post

Hello, everyone! This is my second semester at SJSU. I currently work at a public library in Santa Rosa, and I plan on becoming a public librarian after I graduate. I live in Petaluma, in the northern Bay Area, with my wife and our cat. One of my favorite hobbies, when I have the time, is playing board games (the fancy kind).

I chose INFO 287 because Dr. Stephens did a few guest lectures (if that’s what they’re called) for one of my previous classes, and I really enjoyed his energy and enthusiasm. Also, as a future librarian, someone who currently works in a library, and a life-long lover of libraries, I am very interested in how libraries are combining what people have always loved about them (quiet book sanctuaries) with new and exciting innovations such as maker spaces and in-house social workers. I think the changes that many people perceive as a threat to libraries are pushing libraries to adapt in very exciting ways. I am really looking forward to seeing what we all come up with in this class. I hope to get to know you all better this semester.

Here’s me at the lovely Central Branch, where I work. This picture is fairly recent but my hair is much shorter now. All library workers are required by law to wear a wrist brace at some point in their careers.
