Hello everyone!
My inspiration report mainly focuses on emerging technology trends, specifically video games and consoles being available to play at public libraries. I also touch on on infinite learning and power of stories a little. As someone who loves video games, it was really fun to see how other public libraries provide accessibility to a variety of games to play!
Here is my presentation:
Hi Nicole,
I really loved your topic for the inspiration report! I also really liked the video game theming in your presentation design as well with the PlayStation controls and the ‘Level’ headers 😊 I think expanding and working to maintain a more robust collection of video games that patrons can both play in-library and check out would be a really great idea! While there would certainly be a number of roadblocks that make this trickier (such as the decreased prevalence of physically released games, not to mention how some require being online even in single-player), I think that overall this would be a great move in increasing accessibility and visibility of the library. Especially with Nintendo’s recent price hike on their games, I think a lot more people would be in the market for free access to games that a library could provide. Perhaps in the future, it would be possible for libraries to have a service that blends libraries’ existing Kanopy and Hoopla to gaming companies’ membership libraries like Xbox’s Game Pass that would allow library patrons to access games online as well. That, too, would definitely probably require a lot of funding and upkeep but it could be another way to make it easier for libraries to maintain a wide variety of games.
