Hi Everyone,

I’m Melina! I live in my hometown of Colorado Springs, CO. I currently have a position at my local public library as a Library Associate. I have a BA in Film Studies and a MA in Art History (my MA thesis revolved around film and television history). Because of my background in academia, I am interested in academic libraries. I am mostly interested in library outreach, specifically outreach to underrepresented campus communities. In my professional career I would like to be a part of innovative ways to reach underrepresented student groups (first-gen students, students of color, students with disabilities, and LBGTQ students).

I chose this course because I believe that “hyperlinked” libraries – or, libraries that emphasize community, connectivity, and participation – are the next natural phase of library evolution. I am also excited to see how libraries around the world are coming up with innovative ways to reach people, connect people, and market all that the library has to offer.

Some quirky things about me: I really like retro TV shows – Frasier, Seinfeld, Gilmore Girls – and stand-up comedy (I recently watched John Mulaney’s new stand up show, I highly recommend it!). I am also a bit of a health nut – I love researching healthy lifestyles and new recipes I can try out.

Here is a picture of a healthful meal I made recently. It’s Spaghetti Squash with Summer Pesto and Chicken!
