Innovation Strategy & Roadmap: Wildfire Awareness Services

Hello! For my Innovation Strategy & Roadmap project, I decided to come up with a Wildfire Awareness service. As a Californian, I think many users can benefit from information regarding wildfire prevention and preparedness. Attached below is a PDF of my presentation, where you can see how California libraries such as the Napa County Library can best support their users. Enjoy!

  1. Hi Lorraine, I love the idea of libraries being involved in wildfire awareness! Libraries are often called on to help after natural disasters (I used to live in the Houston area, and our local library helped out after hurricanes), so it makes perfect sense that they would be involved in helping keep the community prepared for natural disasters as well.

During the LA fires, I heard about an app called Watch Duty, which did a better job of keeping folks informed of evacuation orders and the current status of fires. It would be a great resource to share with library patrons.

    1. Hi Gina!

I wasn’t aware of Watch Duty before, but I’d like to look into it now for personal and patron use. I know that not all libraries will deal with wildfire threats, but natural disasters are nonetheless an important element to consider across the entire United States. ALA’s “Disaster Preparedness and Recovery” resource is a fantastic resource for all librarians and MLIS students to refer to. Thank you!
