This is report was inspired by project I am currently working on for the Braille Institute Library. It is written as a general report, to be distributed to library and institute staff, highlighting peer-reviewed research into the cognitive and health benefits of reading and lifelong learning. Though it includes several proposals for library programming, it itself is not a detailed outline of single program or service. Instead, it is meant to be an educational jumping off point, to inspire further research and development. A guide for a larger Library Re-Imagined project.
It’s, admittedly, a dry report. I played around with converting it to a more dynamic visual presentation, but it was an awkward translation, and I felt it worked best as is. The font is actually a font developed by the Braille Institute specifically for low-vision readers, the Atkinson Hyperlegible Font. And text-based documents are easier for screen readers and e-braille readers to translate.
